On the Upswing

Last week was a crazy blur of caring for sick kids (Ellie and Bryn), comforting the healthy kid that had to go to school alone (Lydia), middle of the night asthma attacks, late night calls to the doctor, emergency runs to the pharmacy to buy more Children’s Motrin, calls to my mom (a.k.a. Nana RN), cool washcloths on foreheads, setting the alarm clock for every 3 hours throughout the night in a desperate attempt at getting Bryn’s 103+ fever to break, and trying to keep my sanity through it all! WHEW! It was a little nuts, to say the least!

And just when I thought the worst was over, Lydia managed to slice her thumb open with a knife, nearly sending me over the edge. Amidst the blood that was splattered everywhere, including my face, (I’ve never had one of my kids bleed that much!!) and the many tears and all the drama that accompanied it, we called a good friend who was willing to stop by and take a look at it. His assessment was that it was a nasty cut, but didn’t need stitches and we all breathed a sigh of relief and said “hallelujah” and “thank you Jesus” over and over again.

And then I downed an entire bottle of Jack Daniels.

Just kidding. I’ve never had any Jack Daniels, but it was sounding mighty tasty by the time Saturday night rolled around.

Today is Tuesday and everybody is feeling better and I’m happy to report that my mental health has returned to a stable place. I’m ready for a normal week with a little less action and a lot more sleep!
