This summer will surely be known as “The Summer in Which Blogging was Not a Priority” ha!
I actually had a post all ready to go entitled “Oh How I Hate the County Fair” but when I re-read it, I thought it made me sound like a grumpy old lady and I’m trying my best to avoid that. But the truth is, I hate the county fair. Something about the offensive t-shirts, the great immodesty, the unbelievable profanity, and the gross public displays of affection (or lust?), is enough to keep me away from the fairgrounds.
So instead of whining about all of that, I decided to give you bullet points of complete randomness. Here goes:
1. In honor of the county fair, we had a pie bake-off at church on Sunday. You’re not even going to believe this. . .I won first place!! WooHoo! I entered two pies: a shoofly pie (if you’re not familiar with it, you’re not alone. You kinda have to know a Mennonite to know anything about shoofly pie. It’s good, but an odd combination of ingredients that doesn’t appeal to the general population. . .). But the winning pie was my lemon blueberry pie. Oh the yum!
Here I am with my friend Selena, proudly holding my first place award:

Which shall we discuss first? My seriously deformed hand or that fact that the cameraman didn’t bother to tell Selena that her award is upside down (She won 2nd place with her super delicious blackberry pie)?
2. My sister is due to have her baby in only 4 weeks. She delivered her first baby 2 weeks early so I’m hoping for the same thing to happen this time. The waiting is killing me!
3. School starts in just over a week and we still haven’t fully decided how we are educating our children this year. We have had a number of things happen this summer that have caused us to rethink our original plan of sending them to the public school (where they have been all along). This whole deal about our children’s education has turned out to be a complicated decision! I didn’t know it would be this hard!
4. I just recently blocked off two weeks on my calendar to take a trip to a land far, far away. I’m dying to tell you more about it, but I’m waiting for a few more details to clear up before I write about it here.
5. I hate to see summer end. I think this has been the best summer we’ve ever had as a family. The kids are older and so much easier to travel with. And they can unwrap their own popsicles and wash their own sticky fingers, and get their own swimsuits on, and refill their own water bottles. . .all while I read in the sun. Ah, yes, it’s the simple things in life.
Ok. I think that’s the end of my randomness for now. Thanks for reading!

1. congrats on winning! i would love to come taste any pie you make.
3. i would love to hear more of your thoughts on that topic…
4. until you tell me otherwise, i’ll pretend that maybe you’re coming to canada to see me.
thanks for blogging.
School decisions are tough. I’ll be looking to see what you decided and why. It is something that is on my mind often. I see pros and cons to all options. Praise God He is faithful to lead us all! Glad you had a good summer, congrats on the yummy pie, wish I could taste it
!
I love your blog!! I’m reading backwards. You’ve made me laugh tonight (a lot)!! I wish again that we could be closer to chat frequently.
1. So, in the picture why is your finger deformed? Congrats on the pie!
3. Also would be interested in hearing your thoughts of public schools. We’re sending Kai (and Malia?) to prek and I feel stressed choosing which sort of school setting to put him in. It’s prek for pete’s sake!!
4. Is it to see us?????????? You’d think we’d know it if you were?!?
5. I am so, so glad to hear that your summer was awesome! So blessed!
Lots of love!!
