So I just plowed through another stack of books and I wanted to share them with you all! Here’s how I’ve spent my down time in the last few weeks:
I don’t think I’ve ever read a book about a politician (not sure what that says about me!), but I picked this one up at the library and really enjoyed it:

Reading that book inspired me to pick up this one, which I found poignant, honest, and sad:

Here’s my latest parenting read. I love John Drescher’s straightforward style of writing, and this book is giving me just what I need to hear right now:

I’m still undecided about this one. The story was interesting but slow and in the end I’m not sure it was worth my time:

Have you read this one? Oh man, I. could. not. put. this. book. down. Gripping, eye-opening, maddening, redeeming. You must read it. I have nothing more to say about that.

On the heels of that book, I read this one and it nearly killed me. My emotions can only take so much, and I nearly put myself over the edge. But definitely worth reading:

And on the heels of that one, I read this one (why oh why do I do this to myself??). Again, a difficult book to read but so worth it:

And last but not least, a cookbook. Sometimes when I get in a cooking rut, I make myself cook out of only one cookbook for a couple of weeks. That forces me to try new recipes and expand my repertoire a bit. I’ve had this cookbook since I got married (12 years ago!), but it’s been a while since I pulled it out. I’m glad I did because we’ve been eating healthy, inexpensive meals that my family loves:

What’s in your stack of books?

Great books! I also HIGHLY RECOMMED A Thousand Splendid Suns. I read this one on vacation (I do not recommend doing that!) and I had to put it down many times to catch my breath and wipe away the tears. Thanks for titles to try
I saw something on your facebook page about how much you were enjoying that book and it inspired me to pick it up. So glad I did!
brilliant books Vicki – another great one is Three Cups of Tea – can’t put it down.
You’re the second person to mention this book to me. . .I’m adding it to my reading list! Thanks Celine!
A Thousand Splendid Suns is a great book. Another politician book I recommend is Obama’s Dreams from my Father. What all have you tried and liked from More with Less? Some of those recipes sound good and some are just weird. I would love some recommendations. I love making the French Bread in there and Honey Baked Chicken. Even Formosan cabbage is strangely good.
I agree with you that some of the recipes in MWL are just plain weird. My favorites are Pakistani Kima on page 131 and Sausage-Sweet Potato Bake on page 140. I also use a lot of curry recipes (Basic recipe on page 171 and Groundnut Stew on page 172) and I keep homemade pancake mix on hand which is on page 73. I’ll have to try that cabbage recipe. . .sounds good!
Um…Parents Magazine is as deep as I get right now. I’m far too emotionally fragile at this stage in my life to read anything beyond that.
